Tell me and I forget.  Teach me and I remember.  Involve me and I learn.

Benjamin Franklin

At Daytripper Dog Training we teach you how to train your dog with game-based training methods. When training is fun for both you and your dog, learning is faster and a strong relationship develops between you and your dog. Through games your dog will learn the concepts of focus (paying attention to you), proximity (it's rewarding being near you), calmness, confidence and much more. These concepts are invaluable in the real world whether it be walking on a loose leash, dealing with distractions, chilling in the house or coming when called. Our classes and this games-based innovative approach to training are based on the science of learning theory.

Our classes are small -- four dogs/handlers per instructor -- ensuring all students have one-on-one time with their instructor during each class.

Please note prong, choke and shock collars are not permitted in any of our classes.

Daytripper Dog Training COVID-19 UPDATE:

In accordance with new Provincial guidelines, Daytripper is pleased to announce we will resume teaching on Tuesday, May 19.  Recommended COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place.  Students will be advised of the protocols in advance and must adhere to them in order to participate in class.

With an abundance of caution and a desire to keep our students and ourselves safe and healthy, Stage 1 of our re-opening will include outdoor teaching only.

Initially, we will be offering private and semi-private games lessons (concept training) and small group agility classes.

Stage 2 will include the addition of small group games classes.  Our website will be updated on an ongoing basis and we will be closely monitoring COVID-19 updates.

COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocol

Due to COVID-19 we have had to change many aspects of our daily lives.  The same is true for dog training.  Our goal is to do our best to keep everyone safe and healthy and, with that in mind, we appreciate the cooperation of all of our students in following new health and safety protocols.

Below is a non-exhaustive list.  This list is subject to change as new information about the virus becomes available.

  1. Do not attend class, if you have any of the following conditions:
  • Cough, fever, unexplained new or worsening:
  • Sneezing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea vomiting or diarrhea
  • Muscle aches
  • Fatigue, general malaise
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Loss of smell or taste
  • If you have traveled outside of Canada in the last 14 days. Have an unprotected exposure to a patient with COVID-19 or symptoms consistent with COVID-19. You have been advised to isolate by a Public Health Authority
  1.  Physical distancing is in effect.
  2. One person per dog preferred.  A second family member from the same household can attend (only if feeling 100% well).  Maximum two people.
  3. Students are required to sanitize their hands upon entering/exiting the ring.
  4. Porta Potty:  There will be hand sanitizer on a table outside the porta-potty.  Please use it before and after using the porta-potty and prop the door open after use.
  5. Class confirmations will include additional information regarding protocols during class.

COVID-19 continues to change our daily lives.  If you are registering for lessons (group or private), be sure you are comfortable with our new guidelines and are willing to comply with physical distancing and wearing a face mask, if requested.  We suggest you acclimate your dog to seeing you wearing a mask before the lessons.

These guidelines are intended to keep everyone safe.  Students not complying with these guidelines will be excused from class.  No refunds will be given.

Daytripper Dog Training has four locations. From spring until fall we teach outdoors at our main facility which is located at the south end of the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, just east of the hamlet of Valentia, at the north end of Lake Scugog. From the fall until the spring we teach indoors in Port Perry, in the south end of Little Britain, and in Seagrave (agility only).

Our outdoor location has one fully fenced and gated regulation size agility ring nestled between our little apple orchard on one side and a small forest on the other, all on five country acres. You'll enjoy the relaxed, cottage-like atmosphere of the property, sitting under the two large shade trees situated near the ring and enjoying the action. There is a second fenced ring for other courses. Please note: Our outdoor location is also our home. Visits are by appointment only. Please contact us either by phone or email to schedule an appointment. We appreciate your co-operation.

Daytripper Dog Training offers several levels of agility training. In addition, we host fun matches, workshops and AAC sanctioned agility trials. Check out our "Agility Training" page for more details, along with our "Upcoming Events" page.

Looking to train your family dog? We offer innovative games-based courses for all ages of dogs.  Refer to the Training page for details. In addition, we host seminars on dog behaviour and our popular "Raising Canine" puppy seminar. Details can be found on our "Upcoming Events" page.

Our website is updated regularly. Please check back often.
